Contributing to reducing the load on the ocean environment through epoch-making compound feed for tuna
Previously natural mackerel or other harvested fish were used as raw fish feed in tuna farming. In recent years, however, it has become more difficult to secure such fish as feed due to a decline in the amount of fish caught for use as raw fish feed and an increase in demand for such fish as food.
Therefore, applying our fish sausage manufacturing technology as a food product maker, Hayashikane Sangyo, ahead of the rest of the world, pioneered the development of Tuna Food, a compound feed for tuna with a completely new shape and wrapped in a special film. This feed is extremely soft and outstandingly tasty. In addition, by adjusting the nutritional components and size, it is possible to promote the growth of the cultured tuna and control their meat texture. By using this feed in conjunction with our extruded pellet (EP) feed, which can be used for tuna from a young age, it is possible to raise the tuna with compound feed consistently from feeding to shipment.
Furthermore, because the characteristic shape of Tuna Food prevents spilling while eating, and because the special film wrapping stops nutritional components from running out into the ocean, the feed is environment friendly and does not pollute the water. So Tuna Food contributes to achieving the Sustainable Development Goals too.
Promoting energy-saving activities to prevent global warming
Hayashikane Sangyo has established the Energy Management Committee and is promoting the reduction of the amount of energy consumed and the effective use of energy. By contributing to the prevention of global warming through these activities, we hope to fulfill our social responsibility as a company.
The Energy Management Committee formulates and operates a plan from a medium- to long-term perspective so that energy is used effectively and efficiently throughout the company. On the basis of this plan, the entire company comes together and promotes energy-saving activities with the aim of reducing the amount of energy consumed by an annual average of 1% or more over the medium to long term.
Food support through food banks
Food banks receive donations of disposable food products (nonstandard items, surplus goods, etc.) that are no longer needed but can still be eaten from food product makers, retail stores, and ordinary households and deliver them to those in need, such as welfare facilities, child welfare facilities, and destitute households.
Previously Hayashikane Sangyo unavoidably discarded food products that could not be sold as normal items due to various reasons, such as their nonstandard deformed shape, and so the result was food loss. Believing that the effective use of such products would reduce food loss and contribute to the local community, we collaborated with Food Bank Yamaguchi and commenced the free-of-charge supply of such food products.
Hayashikane Sangyo hopes that, through this initiative, products made to be eaten will not be wasted and will be of use, even in a small way, to people who need them.
